Additional 1000 watt ballast Info:

The 1000 watt ballast kit requires a capacitor and ballast starter to operate. We recommend all ballast servicing to be done by a certified electrician. Improper wiring is unsafe and can certainly damage the lamp and/or ballast kit.

The most commonly used ballast is the core and coil type, which basically consists of a transformer (core and coil) and a capacitor. Core-coil ballasts are sold as kits, which include the transformer, capacitor (and ignitor, if needed) and mounting rails.

The ballast for an instant start fixture has a loosely coupled high voltage transformer winding providing about 500 to 600 V for starting in addition to the series inductor. The electrodes of “instant start” bulbs are designed for starting without preheating.

In fact, they are shorted out internally and are thus incompatible with preheat and rapid start ballasts (and they have only a single pin at each end!). The electrodes still emit electrons due to thermal emission but since they are shorted out cannot be pre-heated. That is why they require a higher starting voltage from the ballast. They light instantly, but this slightly reduces lamp life.

When selecting a magnetic ballast for a 1000-watt HID lamp, it is important to choose a ballast with the correct wattage rating and compatible with the type of lamp being used (metal halide or high-pressure sodium). Some of the best lamp ballasts on the market include:
